Our Story: Where tradition is set in stone
House of Bariki was born from a quiet admiration for craft—an art form practised slowly, with care, and passed down through generations. We work closely with skilled artisans in India to create handcrafted marble inlay pieces using the traditional Parchinkari technique.
Our mission is simple: to honour heritage, support craftsmanship, and bring meaningful design into the homes of people who value what’s made with time and purpose.
And our vision? We aspire to bring forth many more Indian crafts. India is home to over 50 traditional and tribal art forms, and at House of Bariki, we have our heart set on celebrating all.
Each House of Bariki creation tells a story of effort, lineage, and hands that still shape art in the way it was centuries ago.
Centuries ago, artisans in the Mughal courts began perfecting a craft that would come to define timeless beauty, Parchinkari, the art of marble inlay. It was in India that this technique flourished, most famously seen in the delicate detailing of the Taj Mahal. Tiny, hand-cut stones were inlaid into marble to form intricate patterns, floral, geometric, and endlessly precise.
That same tradition lives on at House of Bariki. In our workshop, a small community of artisans continues to practise this centuries-old method, now preserved by only a few hundred hands. Each piece we create, whether a table, lamp, or painting, carries the skill and dedication of its creator. The stones, sourced from across the world, come together slowly and by hand, just as they have for generations.
For Shivansh and Tanya, House of Bariki is more than a brand—it’s a continuation of a family story. Their great grandmother once organised folk art festivals that brought communities together around tradition and creativity. Growing up with those stories, they developed a quiet admiration for the patience, skill, and emotion behind handcrafted work.
That admiration eventually became a mission. Driven by a shared love for Indian art, they set up a workshop in central India—a space where time-honoured techniques and thoughtful design come together. Through House of Bariki, they aim to protect fading traditions like Parchinkari while building a future where artisans and their work are truly valued.
